The project aims to promote youth sports and a healthy lifestyle. Supporting sports and children is a vital and integral part of the company's social initiatives. Damate’s projects help create an environment where sports become an essential part of the younger generation's lives.
Over the course of three days, eight youth hockey teams competed for the tournament's main trophy. The event featured young athletes born in 2015, with teams arriving from the Penza, Rostov, and Tyumen regions, as well as the Stavropol Territory and Moscow.
The tournament consisted of eight matches, including group stage games, a semi-final, a final, and a third-place play-off. Experienced referees from the Russian Ice Hockey Federation officiated the games.
The most emotional highlight of the tournament was the final match on July 29. It was a historic day for the young players: global sports legend Alexander Ovechkin personally took to the ice to support the future champions, offer professional words of encouragement, drop the ceremonial first puck, and present the trophy to the winners.
"I am confident that this celebration of sport will be memorable for everyone and provide fresh momentum for the development of hockey in the Penza region," noted regional Governor Oleg Melnichenko. "The kids have a real spark in their eyes and a drive to achieve victory. Opportunities to play are available, too—and not just in the regional capital." Sports and recreation complexes featuring ice rinks are operating in Kuznetsk and Nizhny Lomov, and a total of 158 hockey rinks have been established across the region. The nationwide "Golden Puck" project is also active, involving rural teams of young hockey players. "If you pursue your dream with persistence and determination, everything will work out."
"Initiatives like this children's tournament represent a vital and correct step toward popularizing and developing hockey in Russia. It is gratifying to see how support for youth hockey from companies like Damate helps raise champions and fosters team spirit and self-confidence among young athletes. Major sports careers begin at tournaments like this; they give young talents the chance to shine. No training session can compare to the experience gained through actual games. True professionals are forged in competition, as success is impossible without overcoming challenges, teamwork, and resilience. I hope this tournament becomes a tradition and provides an opportunity for many talented athletes to showcase their skills," said Alexander Ovechkin.
"Developing sports and supporting young athletes is a major and important part of our work. Events like today's tournament allow the younger generation to demonstrate and improve their athletic abilities. I would like to thank the Governor and Government of the Penza Region, as well as the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, for helping to develop such wonderful sports projects," noted Naum Babayev, CEO of Damate.
The final match saw the "Diesel" team from Penza face off against the "Ice Kings" from Yessentuki. The championship cup went to the team from Penza. At the awards ceremony, medals and commemorative prizes from Indilight were presented, including pucks autographed by Alexander Ovechkin, branded jerseys, caps, and hockey gear bags.
Other tournament participants also received gifts. Each player was given a card autographed by Alexander Ovechkin, a branded sports sack, a water bottle, a sticker pack, and Jibbitz charms.
Six thousand spectators attended the event's final. For those unable to attend the youth hockey tournament final in person, an online broadcast was organized, hosted by Sergey Fedotov—a TV and radio presenter, expert, and commentator for KHL and NHL matches.
The organizers prepared a wide range of entertainment for fans, including a mini-workout featuring 3–4 exercises led by KHL clubs, air hockey, photo zones, photo booths, and a height chart allowing fans to compare their height with Alexander Ovechkin’s. The brand’s beloved mascot, "Indeykin," helped create a vibrant, festive atmosphere.
Damate has a long-standing tradition of supporting the development of youth sports in the regions where it operates. The company funds the construction of sports facilities, such as the children's sports complex in Kislovodsk, which is now open to the public free of charge. Damate also purchases sports equipment for educational institutions across the country.
